I'm wondering how do i turn on/enable the ActiveX Installer Service through windows 7? I have an online game i am playing that just won't let me run it and i am getting majorly frustrated because it would seem that activex controls just are not cooperating and i have no idea how to uninstall internet explorer 8 and downgrade it to internet explorer 7. I mean if there were a way i could just turn off internet explorers security features i would just do that but it's impossible to do even that. Any help would be appreciated. I Googled use of Regsvr32 and Microsoft has a page that explains its usage.
(Particularly important to a Windows 7 64 bit user is that there is a 64 bit and a 32 bit version of Regsvr32. Here's a quote from the above referenced link: 'Note On a 64-bit version of a Windows operating system, there are two versions of the Regsv32.exe file: • The 64-bit version is%systemroot% System32 regsvr32.exe. • The 32-bit version is%systemroot% SysWoW64 regsvr32.exe.' Referring to this quote if you have Comdlg32.OCX in your system32 directory and you enter Regsvr32 Comdlg32.ocx at the command line and you are using windows 7 64 bit you will have a compatibility problem and this Active X file will fail to load. Namely, trying to register a 32 bit Active X file on a 64 bit operating system.
Put Comdlg32.OCX in your SysWoW64 directory and enter in Regsvr32 Comdlg32.ocx from there. I did this and it worked.
